REGIONAL PRESIDENT'S CUP
Tournament History
The Regional President's Cup has been played at clubs nationwide since 1998 and was first played for at New Bridge Polo & Country Club in Aiken, South Carolina, in 2011. Alan Martinez and Eddy Martinez, two members of the 2018 and 2019 winning teams, will return to compete this year for Upatoi Green and Hardscrabble. Joining them will be three additional teams hoping to claim the 2020 trophy.
Beginning in 2020, Regional President’s Cup tournaments held nationwide serve as a qualifying tournament for the National President’s Cup. The return of this tournament format will bring together teams representing USPA Member Clubs around the country and restore the relationship between the two trophies. The 2021 National President’s Cup will be back at New Bridge Polo & Country Club (Aiken, South Carolina) at the height of the competitive season. The National President’s Cup shall give priority entry to first and second place Regional President’s Cup teams.
In 2020, Hardscrabble had their sights set on an undefeated run through the tournament, but Panakeia scored the last three goals of the final including the golden goal from Del Walton to capture the thrilling 9-8 overtime victory. Returning in 2021 with two of their four players, Hardscrabble will seek to claim the 2021 title and will be challenged by returning Upatoi Green along with newcomers Peachtree, SIG and Foxdale Equine. Active Team USPA Members Hope Arellano and Lucas Arellano will compete for Peachtree, while Graduating Team USPA member Matt Coppola will join SIG.
