NATIONAL TWENTY GOAL®
TOURNAMENT HISTORY
The National Twenty Goal was first played at the Royal Palm Polo Club (now defunct) in Boca Raton, Florida, in 2007. Won by Houston-based team BTA (Chrys Beal, Mariano Gonzalez, Francisco Lanusse, Santiago Trotz) in a narrow victory over Audi 13-12, the trophy then fell into abeyance until 2011.
Resurrected by Grand Champions Polo Club (GCPC) in Wellington, Florida, the tournament has consistently fielded four to six competitive teams over the past 10 years. Audi has dominated the competition with four total wins (2012, 2013, 2015, 2019), including back-to-back victories in 2012 and 2013 with an identical team (Marc Ganzi, Carlos Gracida Jr., Nic Roldan, Carlos Gracida), followed by Casablanca with three wins (2017, 2018, 2020). With seven titles to his name (2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2021), Nic Roldan currently holds the record for most National Twenty Goal tournament wins.
In 2021, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek (Melissa Ganzi, Jason Crowder, Nic Roldan, Juan Bollini) stunned Casablanca (Grant Ganzi, Kris Kampsen, Jeff Hall, Tommy Biddle) in a wild overtime finish to claim the 12-11 victory and $50,000 in prize money. Read article here.
Riding high from their recent North American Cup victory, Santa Rita returns to the field with Melissa Ganzi, Nic Roldan and Juan Bollini looking to repeat their National Twenty Goal title. Of the four teams competing in 2022, returning finalists include Team USPA alumnus Grant Ganzi for Casablanca, and Kris Kampsen and Museum of Polo & Hall of Fame inductee Tommy Biddle representing Travieso. Continuing the tradition of high-level play at GCPC, eight of the 16 competing players have combined for 24 National Twenty Goal titles since its inception in 2007, with Nic Roldan vying for his eighth championship victory.
