JOE BARRY MEMORIAL

TOURNAMENT HISTORY

The Joe Barry Memorial was founded in 2005 in honor of Joe Barry, who passed away in 2002. Inducted into the Polo Hall of Fame in 1999, his major wins included six U.S. Open Polo Championship® titles, three USPA Gold Cup® titles, and the 1971 Coronation Cup in England.

In 2021, Santa Clara (Kristos ‘Keko’ Magrini, Lucas Escobar, Luis Escobar, Matias Magrini) emerged victorious 10-7 over Beverly Polo (Bill Ballhaus, Lucas Diaz Alberdi, Jorge "Tolito" Fernandez Ocampo Jr., Hilario Figueras, Peke Gonzalez). Undefeated Santa Clara assembled right before the start of the tournament and featured two father-son duos of Escobar’s and Magrini’s.

The 2022 Joe Barry Memorial will feature four competitive teams vying for the title including 2021 champion and Team USPA Member Lucas Escobar joining La Fe, as fellow Team USPA Member Kristos 'Keko' Magrini reunites with his father Matias Magrini for CK Shack. Other talented competitors include the return of Beverly Polo's 2020 roster, as Patagones rounds out the family affair with brothers Benjamin and Joaquin Avendaño reuniting with Santiago Wulff, with hopes to recreate their chemistry from their 2020 Ylvisaker Cup victory.
