Tournament Information

The Villages Polo Club has historically been a large supporter of women in polo. Their involvement as hosts to the U.S. Open Women’s Handicap for a decade in the early 90s through the early 2000s set a precedent for women’s polo in the area. In recent years, the club has successfully held a high-level USPA-sanctioned WCT women’s tournament consistently each fall. While this year’s jam-packed weekend of women’s polo features two flights with eight total teams participating, the Florida Circuit Women’s Challenge competed at the 12- to 14-goal level will field four teams, showcasing some of the best women’s polo in the region.

Gracing this year’s roster is recent 2017 U.S. Open Women’s Polo Championship™ winner 14-year-old Hope Arellano playing alongside Florida high-goal staple Gillian Johnston on Coca-Cola. Meanwhile, Paige McCabe, The Villages Polo Club Director of Operations, will aptly be captaining The Villages team. Last but not least, Arden’s Fine Jewelers and McLin Burnsed each boast one if not two members of Team USPA.

The Venue

Nestled within Central Florida’s largest and liveliest adult community, The Villages® Polo Club (TVPC) in The Villages, Florida, hosts tournaments during the Spring and Fall seasons, offering 6-goal and above. Sprawling across nearly 200 lush acres of beautiful pasture land, dotted with majestic live oaks, TVPC is a fixture within the vast community, attracting anywhere from 800 to 1,500 spectators for Friday and Sunday games.

Formed in 1988 and actively hosting tournaments since 1997, the Villages Polo Club was inspired by Oxford Polo Club, a small club in neighboring Lady Lake, Florida. Founded by veterinarians Dr. Bill and Manulani Lyall and their son Lord Lyall, Oxford Polo Club would sparked the interest of the growing Villages community nearby. Wanting to offer polo in the rapidly expanding retirement community, The Villages contacted Lord Lyall and hired him as club manager once the new club was erected. Today, the club, operated by Paige McCabe, boasts an equally active and unique polo community of educated spectators called “Villagers” embracing the sport in their golden years.

Recently breaking ground on October 1, 2017, TVPC now has a newly established polo school led by head polo instructor Mike Harris, equipped with a string of club ponies. Notable for its turnkey experience, the club is currently expanding their facilities to create the ultimate “polo campus.”
