EASTERN CHALLENGE®
TOURNAMENT HISTORY
The Eastern Challenge®, a 12-goal national tournament, was first competed for in 1986 at the Potomac Polo Club in Sugarland, Maryland. The winning team consisted of Alan Nash, Jack Whittemore, Juan Bollini Sr. and Salvadore Socas. The prestigious tournament has been played a total of 24 times throughout its history, residing most recently at Grand Champions Polo Club (Wellington, Florida) from 2010 to 2018. Sebucan are the reigning title holders, capturing the 2018 Eastern Challenge® with a 16-10 victory over Chukker TV.
After a two-year hiatus, the Eastern Challenge® has been revived and returns with a new host, taking place at Beverly Polo Club in The Plains, Virginia for the first time. Four teams are scheduled to compete for a chance to take home the trophy with hosts Beverly challenged by Woodrow, Kingland and Greenhill.
As the country emerges out of the COVID-19 crisis, the USPA established opportunities to support USPA Member Club events through the use of the COVID-19 USPA Polo Tournament Stimulus Package, which provides eligible USPA Member Clubs with waived tournament fees, trophies or reimbursements, one professional umpire and $2,500 in prize money per tournament at no extra cost. Beverly Polo Club will be taking advantage of the program for this tournament.
