Southern Methodist University (SMU) Polo Club internships are available for the 2018/19 academic year in Dallas, Texas. This is an opportunity to work and play under the supervision of SMU Coach Tom Goodspeed.
Goodspeed is a former 9-goal arena player (5-goal outdoors) with 16 USPA national arena championships to his credit (Read more on coach Tom Goodspeed here). The intern positions will be expected to care full time for the SMU horses. In return, interns will receive a weekly salary and be provided with playing and coaching opportunities in practice chukkers under the direct supervision of Coach Goodspeed. Interns are expected to supply their own housing and transportation. These intern positions are a valuable educational opportunity for anyone looking to improve their skill level in playing, stable management and coaching. The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
