Las Brisas Polo Club (Elgin, Illinois) is proud to host the second annual Midwest Open. Running from August 5 to August 19, the 14-goal USPA-sanctioned event will feature teams gathering from all over the world to battle for the prestigious trophy. Las Brisas will utilize fields at Arranmore Polo Club (Oswego, Illinois), Morgan Creek Polo Club (Yorkville, Illinois) and Oak Brook Polo Club (Oak Brook, Illinois) alongside partner Passion for Polo to present one of the two highest rated handicap USPA tournaments (Chicago Polo Invitational) in the Central Circuit.
Located on 160 perfectly manicured acres, Las Brisas is a luxury sporting destination that includes two polo fields, a stick-and-ball field, a regulation-size polo arena, a half-mile horse track, on-site stabling for 121 horses, a player’s clubhouse and 12 large paddocks. Following the 2021 season, Las Brisas purchased approximately 100 acres that borders the current facility to the north. Construction is underway on two additional regulation-sized polo fields, a member clubhouse with rooftop patio viewing and 20 large paddocks which is expected to be complete by 2024. Since its establishment, Las Brisas has quickly become a premier polo facility for players and spectators alike.
The farm is owned by Larry Aschebrook, who began playing polo in 2017 and quickly fell in love with the sport. Las Brisas was conceived to support growing family traditions. After purchasing the property in 2019, Aschebrook has transformed the property into a family-friendly environment where the tradition of polo lives on and new memories made. By creating the Midwest Open, Aschebrook also saw an opportunity to grow polo in the Chicago area and throughout the Midwest.
“The goal with the Midwest Open was originally to bring high-goal polo back to the Midwest. I wanted to create something new and exciting that brought teams together from all over the country,” said Aschebrook, “With the help of the USPA, we were able to do just that. This year we have six teams with players from all over the world. Next year, we hope to grow that number and expand the tournament even more. It’s thrilling to see competitive polo back in the Midwest.”

The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
