The Nations Cup, an international tournament first played for in 2011, will see a team from North America compete for the first time April 23-29, 2018, in Argentina.
The governing board of the Argentine Polo Association formed the tournament driven by the firm idea of promoting polo competition between all nationalities. In April of 2009, Argentina, Brazil, England and a team comprised of multiple other countries competed for the inaugural title. Argentina won the inaugural Nations Cup and has since added an additional five wins to their record. Despite Argentina's dominance in Nations Cup competition, England claimed the title in 2014 and Chile won in 2016. Over the years, the tournament has shown incredible growth broadening to include women’s, juniors and senior’s divisions.
This year, North America, Argentina and Columbia will field teams to compete for the opportunity to take home the Nations Cup. The USPA is proud to announce that Freddie Mannix (9), Julian Mannix (6), Jared Zenni* (6) and Jesse Bray* (5) will represent North America.
*Jared Zenni and Jesse Bray are members of Team USPA. Team USPA is a USPA program designed to enhance and grow the sport of polo in the United States by identifying young, talented American players and providing mentored training and playing opportunities leading to a pool of higher rated amateur and pro players and the resultant giveback to the sport of polo.
Effective Date: Saturday, May 16, 2020
