Westchester Cup
Tournament History
The Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA) and the United States Polo Association (USPA) are pleased to announce that the historical Westchester Cup will return to American soil on Sunday, April 28 at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, Florida. The Westchester Cup was first played in 1886 and has been played 18 times throughout its history, only five of which have taken place since World War II. The cup, created by Tiffany & Co., is currently held by England, who defeated the USA team of Jeff Hall, Peke Gonzalez, Nic Roldan and Julio Arellano in 2018.
This year the USPA will field a team consisting of Geronimo Obregon (4), Peke Gonzalez (6), Mike Azzaro (6) and Jared Zenni (6) with Julio Arellano (8) as team coach. Costi Caset (6), Tommy Collingwood (5) and Jeff Blake (6) will serve as USA team alternates. The USA currently holds the record for the most tournament wins (10-8), but has not hoisted the cup high since 1992, when Rob Walton, Owen Rinehart, Adam Snow and John Gobin captured the win in a thrilling double overtime victory. Team USA will be hosted at the International Polo Club Palm Beach where pregame practices will also be held.
The Flannels England team will be outfitted in Hurlingham 1875 and the USA team will sport U.S. Polo Assn. apparel, both on and off the field. American players will wear performance wear jerseys, team hats, vests and jackets to promote the authenticity between the sport of polo and the licensed brand of the USPA.
On Saturday, April 20, the United States (Bayne Bossom, Olivia Uechtritz, Lucas Escobar and Timmy Dutta) defended their 2018 title to win the Junior Westchester Cup 6-4 over England (Ned Hine, Milly Hine, Will Harper and Monty Swain-Grainer). The USPA encourages all polo fans to save the date, tune in, and cheer on the home team in the final game at IPC's U.S. Polo Assn. Field.
