Player Performance Analysis (PPA) is the USPA’s newest training program to utilize cutting-edge technology and sports analysis to maximize player potential and development. The three faceted program enhances an individual’s polo through Riding and Swing Analysis and Pre-Riding Warmup Exercises. This season the Intercollegiate/Interscholastic Program will host PPA Clinics at their Open National Interscholastic Championship and their Girls' National Interscholastic Championship tournaments. Last week, interscholastic players from Gardnertown Polo (Newburgh, New York), Houston Polo Club (Houston, Texas), Maryland Polo Club (Jarrettsville, Maryland), and Poway Polo Club (Poway, California) had the opportunity to be filmed performing the USPA Riding and Swing patterns with feedback given through Elite Analysis videos after the tournaments concluded on www.poloskilz.com.

According to Amy Fraser, Director of Intercollegiate/Interscholastic polo, “adding the PPA portion to the interscholastic national format provides players a unique opportunity to be able to record their riding and swings, have immediate feedback, and the ability to watch themselves improve through their high school and college career as the PPA becomes more accessible to coaches and instructors.”

Coaches also had the opportunity to download the analysis application, Coach’s Eye, onto their phones or tablets to utilize this tool in their own programs. USPA staff and contractors provided one-on-one sessions with coaches to answer questions and assist in learning simultaneously while participants were filmed.

Elite Clinician and Team USPA member Connor Deal said, “it has been very exciting to be able to be a part of the PPA program. It has been amazing to see how easily it allows both instructors to provide clear feedback and students to review their swings and riding patterns. I look forward to seeing how this technology changes the way people learn to play polo.”
