In the 2017 Pete Bostwick Memorial Final held at New Bridge Polo & Country Club in Aiken, South Carolina, Crestview Genetics comprised of Lucas Diaz Alberdi (4 goals), Pedro Manion (3 goals), Alan Meeker (A) and Hugo Lloret (5 goals) defeated Upatoi Green/Foxdale Equine formed by Jake Flournoy (2 goals), Alan Martinez (5 goals), Eddy Martinez (4 goals) and Hugh Worsham (A). Upatoi Green/Foxdale Equine (UG/FE) received one goal on handicap at the onset of the game, which was quickly matched by a penalty 2 conversion from Crestview Genetics’ Lloret. A field goal from Worsham put UG/FE in the lead at the end of chukker one 2-1. The remainder of the first half was neck-and-neck as both teams scored two field goals and converted a penalty each. UG/FE held a narrow 5-4 lead at the half.
Second half action displayed back-and-forth play. Upatoi Green/Foxdale Equine dominated the fourth with back-to-back goals from Eddy Martinez and a field goal from Flournoy, answered by a solitary goal from Diaz Alberdi. The tables turned in the fifth however, as Crestview Genetics outscored UG/FE with three combined goals from Lloret and Diaz Alberdi, countered by a goal from Alan Martinez. Maintaining the lead with their initial goal in handicap UG/FE entered the final chukker on top 9-8. Crestview Genetics firing on all cylinders, scored three consecutive goals in the sixth to gain a two-goal lead 11-9 as the clock wound down. Despite UG/FE’s best efforts, a final goal from Worsham was not enough to overcome Crestview Genetics who seized the 2017 Pete Bostwick Memorial Trophy with a final score 11-10.
Most Valuable Player was awarded to Hugo Lloret the game high-scorer with six goals on the day. Best Playing Pony honors were presented to Padme owned and played by Upatoi Green/Foxdale Equine’s Jake Flournoy in the fifth chukker.
