Despite the USPA’s 126-year history, it was only in the last 44 years that women have been officially allowed to play competitively. The USPA Women’s Committee recognizes the many female influences throughout the “Sport of Kings” and sought a way to annually recognize one woman within the sport. Both the Polo Training Foundation and the USPA Intercollegiate/Interscholastic programs award Female Player of the Year awards. This award however, is not just for players. Members of the USPA Women’s Committee feel polo is not only about the players but those who support and help grow the sport. The committee members hope to see women nominated that serve as role models—women whose selflessness, passion and drive have contributed to the sport for the greater good of the polo community.
The United States Polo Association Woman of the Year significantly advances the mission of the USPA, as well as the Women’s Committee—to encourage and increase the participation of women in all aspects of the USPA, to improve the standard of women’s polo throughout the United States and to facilitate the communication and networking of women in polo all over the world.
The USPA Women's Committee is opening up nominations for the 2018 Woman of the Year Award to the entire membership. Nominations close on Thursday, November 30.
Effective Date: Saturday, May 16, 2020
The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
