When Justin Klentner was first introduced to arena polo in Los Angeles at California Polo Club nearly twenty years ago, he quickly took a liking to the fast-paced sport. Justin felt at home in the saddle, training and showing high level jumping horses throughout his teenage years in Detroit, Michigan, but polo offered a new level of excitement. Alongside his wife, Amanda Masters, daughter, Vivi, and two sons, Jake and Luke, polo became a pillar for the family as they built Klentner Ranch behind the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club.
The Klentner Ranch polo team now holds multiple prestigious tournament wins including three Pacific Coast Opens, the USPA Silver Cup, two Robert Skene trophies, the Heritage Cup and multiple USPA Intra-Circuit titles. For Justin, winning several of these major tournaments alongside his two sons is his biggest accomplishment in polo.
As a first-time Governor-At-Large nominee, Justin’s involvement in all levels of the sport from I/I to high goal positions him as a unique spokesperson for clubs and USPA members seeking better representation within the USPA governance. His interests include identifying and building USPA Training Centers outside of Florida, creating pathways for American players to improve and compete, and provide insight to the USPA from regions in western United States.
Justin has served on the USPA High Goal Committee and sits on the SBPRC board. He has a demonstrated history of hiring I/I alumni pursuing careers outside of polo, and supports American professional players.
Effective Date: Saturday, May 16, 2020
The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
