I am Paul Griffin, an intense athlete my entire life. I found the sport of polo in the early nineties after many hunt years as a whip for the West Hills Hunt, Los Angeles, and the Rocky Fork Headley Hunt Beagles, Gahanna, Ohio. I have represented Team USA in triathlon age-group world championships, held in Australia, China, and New Zealand.
When in the saddle, I enjoy polo at many levels of competition, up to 8-goal polo. One of my polo passions is sports writing, which has resulted in numerous contributions to Polo magazine. When not in the saddle, I enjoy my work in the academy at U.C. Davis and earlier at Stanford. At U.C. Davis, I helped support collegiate polo as a student club activity as well as the Hooves for Heroes program of equine therapy for U.C. Davis wounded veterans.
For the past 11 years, I have served as President and Delegate of the Wine Country Polo Club, California. As the Delegate, my focus for the club was expanding the membership. WCPC now fields three levels of play for members: beginners, mid-flight, a 6-8 goal pro-Am league. We typically hold three Circuit tournaments per season.
As your USPA Governor-At-Large, I would support collegiate polo, the growth of club membership, and, as an experienced administrator, I am committed to work on your behalf by sharing ideas and knowledge of the sport of polo. As I seek your vote, my focus will be on representing the USPA membership, increasing the value of your membership, participating on USPA committees, and attending meetings in person to achieve this commitment. I have a keen desire to serve the USPA at the Governor-At-Large level.
Effective Date: Saturday, May 16, 2020
The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
