Tom Gose is a third generation polo player and has been a member of the USPA since 1972. He is a two time winner of the US Open Polo Championship, first with his father Steve in 1984 (one of two father and son combinations to win the tournament, the other being Joe and Harold Barry) and in 1986 with the last all-American team to win. He is also winner of the 26-goal International Cup, the National Twelve Goal and the National 18-goal tournaments. He was selected to represent the US team in the first FIP World Championships in 1986.
From 1978 through 1986, Tom helped his father manage the Retama Polo Center in San Antonio, Texas, the largest polo club at that time with 16 polo fields. The Open Championship was held there during those years, as was the last Cup of the America’s played in the US.
Tom was originally a Board member of the US Polo Association from 1986 until 1992. He chaired the Umpire and Rules Committees during that time. He produced the first video rulebook for the USPA and established the certified Umpires program. Currently, he chairs the Rules Committee, is a member of the Umpires LLC advisory board, the High-Goal Committee and is a member of the Executive Committee.
Effective Date: Saturday, May 16, 2020
The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
