Third generation polo player Corky Linfoot is a legend both on and off the field. His accomplishments include winning several umpire awards, two U.S. Open Polo Championships®, four Pacific Coast Opens, Coronation Cup, Queen’s Cup and Harrison Cups in England, and five National 16-Goal victories. In addition to tournament wins, Corky and his wife Kathy are renowned horse trainers with two “Horse of the Year” awards to Corcha and Beckon, both of which were purchased off-the-track. Corky initially felt that he was capable of teaching polo when he could captain a team, which happened in the early 1970’s. By the mid-70’s Corky and Kathy started teaching clinics in Texas, El Salvador, and California where they continue to teach today.
What has been one of your favorite teaching memories?
“Coaching a team in which Hector Galindo replaced me because I had been injured. He said he never understood what leg-riding was until that tournament. There were 42 teams in a single elimination tournament and that team (Risky Business) won.”

The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
