THE USPA

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER (COO)

The USPA is finalizing its candidate review process for the position of Chief Operating Officer of the Association. Persons interested in this position should contact Bev Basist, USPA HR Director, immediately. Please provide a resume and contact information to BBasist@uspolo.org.

This position will be the COO for the USPA, representing the national governing body for the sport of polo in the United States.

THE POSITION DESCRIPTION INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:

USPA Goals

  • Work constantly to improve the rules and the umpiring interpretations of the rules, assess accurate handicaps to ensure a level playing field for competition and increase the stature and importance to members of our USPA tournaments.
  • Recognize that the USPA image is important to the sport. Communicate the importance of well-run attractive facilities and conducted competition as indicators to our audiences of the quality of the polo experience.
  • Enhance the club network, using PDI funding, to support the USPA’s infrastructure and increase membership.
  • Use tournament stimulus programs to enhance the stature of USPA tournaments across the full range of tournaments thereby creating a pathway for improvement from low goal all the way up to the top of the handicap range (0-22 goals) for players, teams, and horses.
  • Support youth polo to broaden the base of players.
  • Create “best in class” polo academies designed to produce and develop more playing sponsors for the sport.
  • Develop outreach initiatives to attract potential player sponsors.
  • Broaden the offering of competition in Wellington to include championship series at multiple handicap levels through the establishment of a Sunday Field concept for hosting finals of tournaments at all handicap levels.

Qualifications

Broad experience in polo. Significant business experience with a successful track record in management, showing facility in handling contracts and legal issues.

Management/Style

A team player who leads by example, delegates authority, shares glory, and inspires trust. Demonstrates an empathetic manner characterized by fairness and honesty.
