North American Cup®

Tournament History

Instituted in 1974, the North American Cup has been a staple in American and Canadian polo for several decades played at the 16- to 20-goal level. The first winners of the tournament Tulsa boasted Hall of Famers John T. Oxley and Dr. William “Billy” Linfoot along with Corky Linfoot and Jason “Jim” MacGinley. During the late 1990s and early 2000s Calgary Polo Club in Alberta, Canada, was host to the tournament with Millarville dominating the competition. The tournament has resided at Grand Champions Polo Club, located in Wellington, Florida, since 2011. Defending champions Flexjet will look to reclaim the title this year having edged out Audi in the 2016 tournament 11-9. Joined by last year’s finalists Audi who have won the tournament three separate times, 2014 winners Casablanca and Goose Creek, the 2017 North American Cup will surely be a competitive battle to the finish.

Active during fall, winter and spring seasons, Grand Champions Polo Club (GCPC) occupies eleven well-manicured fields on multiple locations in the heart of Wellington, Florida. Owned by Marc and Melissa Ganzi, club president and USPA Florida Circuit Governor, GCPC and the polo facility at Santa Rita Polo Farm hosts polo tournaments ranging from 6- to 26-goals in addition to special events.
