Maserati of Santa Barbara America Cup

Tournament History

The America Cup, formerly known as the 16-Goal Championship, was first played for in 1964. Held exclusively at Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club in Carpenteria, California, for the last several years, 2018 competition will field five teams. Farmers & Merchants Bank is looking to continue their winning streak with a fourth title, having won three consecutive years in a row from 2015 to 2017. They will be joined by Klentner Ranch, Restoration Hardware, Lucchese and Sol de Agosto, all teams who completed in the 2017 tournament.

Tournament Format

Everyone plays one another with four bracket games and one bye for each team in bracket play. The team with the best record advances directly to the final. Ties on record will be broken by who beat who in two-way ties and all other ties will be broken by a USPA one-man shootout. The teams with second and third records will play a “mini-semifinal.”

Maserati of Santa Barbara America Cup

The Venue

For over 100 years, Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club (SBPRC) has provided a world class polo facility for polo patrons, professionals, and amateurs of all levels. Situated between the Carpentina Foothills and the Pacific Ocean, the club offers an unparalleled location for adrenaline-filled competition. Santa Barbara Polo Club offers over six months of polo each year at a variety of levels.Their season begins in mid-April when local California players are invited to play in casual club chukkers before the start of the spring season. Their 12-goal season runs from May to June, followed by their prominent high-goal season. The Gulfstream Pacific Coast Open is the highlight of the summer season, and is the only Open tournament on the West Coast.

Spectators are invited from May through the first weekend in October to catch the action at their featured 3pm Sunday matches. Learn about polo and be part of the club through lessons in the arena and on the grass, clinics, coaching league, arena league and camps for adults and youth at the new Polo Academy directed by USPA Certified Polo Instructor, Jeff Scheraga.
